We invite you to come to Altai to observe a really unique astronomical phenomenon – a total solar eclipse.
“Total solar eclipses are very rare events for any given place on Earth because totality is only seen where the Moon's umbra touches the Earth's surface. A total solar eclipse is a spectacular natural phenomenon and many people consider travel to remote locations in order to observe one. The 1999 total eclipse in Europe, possibly the most-watched eclipse in human history, helped to increase public awareness of the phenomenon. This was illustrated by the number of people willing to make the trip to witness the 2005 annular eclipse and the 2006 total eclipse. The next total solar eclipse will occur on August 1, 2008.” ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_eclipse )
Our program gives you an opportunity not only to see a total solar eclipse but to know a little the wonderful nature and landscapes of the Altai Mountains. Camp for the eclipse observation will be organized in Chuiskaia steppe at the foot of the Northern-Chuiskiy range. There are only mountains and glaciers 4000 m high around and nature is really wild there. By the road we’ll make a stop to see the petroglyphic drawings and during 4 days of staying in the camp we’ll visit Ak-Tru canyon (Ak-Tru glacier), Kurumdu canyon, the Telegits sanctuary Kosh-Agach. On the way back we’ll make a stop in Gorno-Altaisk, local History museum.
Weather conditions in Siberia at this time of the
year are favorable for eclipse observation so we hope that the trip will
be successful. To see the pictures of the last solar eclipse, please,

Be aware that the next total solar eclipses will occur in Northern America in 2017, in Europe – in 2026, and in Russia – in 2030, so do not miss your present opportunity! |
